Christabel Belonwu, a senior majoring in advertising and minoring in fashion merchandising and a New Media certificate, is the first recipient of the Free Spirit Scholarship established by 22-squared, an Atlanta advertising agency. The scholarship is in memory of Brittney Fox Watts, a 2007 Grady College advertising alumna and 22-squared employee who was killed in Atlanta last year.
“Today we celebrate a beloved member of our family,” 22-squared said on the company’s Facebook page last week. “She lives on in our hearts, and in The Brittney Fox Watts Free Spirit Scholarship at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Georgia.”
“I am so grateful to be chosen as the first recipient and I am honored to keep Ms. Brittney Watts’ memory alive,” Belonwu said.
Belonwu is currently interning at Turner’s offices in Atlanta as a marketing affiliate sales intern. Her previous internship work includes internships at Saatchi and Saatchi’s Nigeria offices, Connect to Athens and SNIP Insider in Athens. On campus, she is involved in Ad Club, University Union, Caribbean Student Association and is a resident assistant for Campus Housing.
