Recapping our First Annual Run Toward Sustainability

On Saturday, as we finished our First Annual Run Toward Sustainability, the heavens smiled on us for the second time this month (i.e. Butterfly Release) by holding off the rain and bringing out the sunshine.

Participants received a bit of an education as they trekked the 5K plus (for some) through the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, with education stations, built by UGA Dept. of Sustainability and placed along the way to promote ways to live more sustainably.  At the finish line, runners received a Klean Kanteen water bottle in a Bag The Bag grocery tote to remind them to carry the message forward as they reduce the amount of plastic used on a daily basis.  Winners of the run received Tread for Good sandals, garden memberships, and bags of locally grown produce from the UGArden.

We were honored by each and every one of our sponsors, who generously came forward to support the run.  We had an amazing turnout of 150 participants (in spite of threatening thunderstorms), who greeted each other with hugs, encouraged one another along the way, and celebrated together as they crossed the finish line.

Some of you may have noticed that Small Dreams Foundation has adopted a new tagline, inspired by the example that Brittney set for us in her life.  We hope that the run inspired all of you to:

Live Sustainably. Support Locally. Love Deeply.

In the words of Rose Kennedy, “Time does not heal all wounds.”

But love … that is what sustains us, and gives us the strength to go on. From the bottom of our hearts, to the very generous hearts of all of you, thanks for sustaining, supporting, and loving us deeply.
